National Powerboat Certificate

This is a comprehensive two day course designed so that you can effectively skipper a power driven vessel by day

Improving - Level 2

Objective

The aim of this course is to develop the skills and knowledge that allow participants to safely and effectively skipper an open powerboat by day, on inland and coastal waters with which they are familiar.

Previous Knowledge

Participants on this course must hold the Irish Sailing Introduction to Powerboating Certificate or equivalent experience.

What to bring

Waterproof /Windproof jacket, Waterproof trousers / Salopettes, Boots (Feet may get wet in boats or on slipways, flip flops/booties not appropriate) Change of clothes, Towel, Hat, Sunglasses, Packed Lunch, Pen and notepad.

 

NB: We do not provide any waterproof gear. Participants without the appropriate gear will not be allowed on the water. Participants must be prepared for boating in all conditions, whatever the forecasted weather may be.

RIB with 40HP Outboard, Displacement craft with tiller outboard, Other RIBs and displacement craft.

NB: This course will only run with a minimum of 2 participants.

Age Range

16+

Under 16? It is recommended that U16's complete Introduction to Powerboating. Junior National Powerboat Certificate courses (12-16yr old) are available, however, under Irish Law "It is illegal for anyone under the age of 16 to operate boat capable of 17 knots or more on Irish coastal or inland waters." For this reason some course modules will not be completed and therefore the certificate will not recognise completion of a full National Powerboat Certificate.
